Short description of the work
During the nine shifts supplied, (U,Am)O2 transmutation target samples with an Am/(U+Am) ratio of 15% prepared using both ITU and CEA processes (green samples, some sintered at CEA, the other at ITU) were studied by XAS (X-ray absorption spectroscopy). XANES (X-ray absorption near edge structure) and EXAFS (extended X-ray absorption fine structure) spectra were recorded on all samples at both U and Am edges.
Analysis of the results will now be performed jointly by ITU and CEA. Coupled with XRD (X-ray diffraction) measurements, the results obtained will thus provide a comparison of the influence of the fabrication processes on both long-range and local structures, as well as on the oxidation states of the cations.
