This symposium focuses on addressing the challenges inherent in the preparation, analysis, and data interpretation of nuclear and irradiated materials and will focus on:

  • Preparation of irradiated materials, including  techniques, facilities and equipment
  • Development of standard reference materials or standardless methods for analysis
  • Light element analysis (e.g. B, C, O, N in Pu or U, in carbide, nitride or oxide fuels)
  • Analytical procedures adapted for innovative structural materials, such as ceramic matrix composites (SiC/SiC), or for inert matrix fuels
  • Analysis of nuclear materials (irradiated or fresh), including fuel or structural components
  • Ways of combining disparate types of instruments (e.g. FIB, EPMA, SIMS, LEAP, SEM/EDS, XPS, TEM) to obtain complimentary data from samples
  • Modeling approaches that aid in the collection and interpretation of microscopy data

The ACTINIDES 2013 conference is dedicated to providing a platform for discussion and information exchange for current research in the physics and chemistry of the actinide and the transactinide elements. Specific topics will include fundamental materials science, chemistry, physics, environmental science, and application technologies. The conference will consist of presentations of new scientific results in plenary lectures, invited and contributing talks and in poster formats. The ACTINIDES 2013 Conference also offers an excellent opportunity to establish or renew contacts with colleagues during the scientific program, the poster session, the excursion program.

ACTINIDES 2013 is jointly organized by the European Commission Joint Research Centre Institute for Transuranium Elements (ITU)   and the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT)  . The scientific sessions will be held at the Congress Center Karlsruhe  , in the “Hebel” and “Thoma” conference rooms, from the 21st to the 26th of July 2013.

14th International Conference on the Chemistry and Migration Behaviour of Actinides and Fission Products in the Geosphere

The MIGRATION conferences provide an international forum for the timely exchange of scientific information on chemical processes controlling the migration behaviour of actinides and fission products in natural aquifer systems. Experimental investigations and predictive modeling of these processes are the main topics of the conferences.
